You clean your floors regularly, but when was the last time you cleaned your mop head? If your mop smells odd or leaves streaks, it’s probably doing more harm than good.
So, can you wash mop heads in the washing machine? Absolutely—and here’s how to wash mop heads in the washing machine the right way.
Knowing how to clean mop heads is just as important as mopping itself. Dirty mop heads can spread germs instead of removing them. Follow these easy steps to keep your mop doing its job:
1. Check the care label
Not all mop heads are the same. If you're using a Vileda microfibre mop, you’re in luck—they’re designed to be machine washable.
2. Remove the mop head
Detach the mop head from the handle. Most Vileda mops, like the Vileda Turbo 2in1 Mop and Bucket Set Spin Mop, have easy-click systems for quick removal.
3. Shake off loose dirt
Take the mop head outside and give it a good shake. This prevents debris from going into your washing machine.
4. Use a laundry bag (optional)
Place the mop head inside a mesh laundry bag. This protects both the fabric and your washing drum.
5. Wash according to the wash care label.
All Vileda mop refills are washable at 30°C without softener or the usage of bleach.
6. Air dry completely
Don’t use the tumble dryer. Always hang the mop head and let it air dry fully before storing or reusing.
If your mop is very dirty, pre-soak it in warm water with a little detergent for 30 minutes before machine washing. This helps loosen built-up grime.
Knowing how to clean dirty mop heads will not only keep your floors spotless but also extend the life of your cleaning tools. And with Vileda’s reusable mop pads and microfibre refills, you can save money and clean more efficiently.
